Walk along the Stroudwater Canal. Another stage in our perambulations along this masterpiece of engineering.
A gentle 5.2Km (total) walk along the recently restored towpath of the Stroudwater Navigation to its terminal basin at Wallbridge in the centre of Stroud and it’s junction with the Thames & Severn Canal.
This is the third walk/social we have done in this area and gives an insight into Stroud’s woollen industry and industrial past.
There are bridges, boats, locks, cranes, flowers, tunnels (well almost), hydro-electric schemes, woollen mills, viaducts and even trains.
If time permits we can wander along the Thames & Severn to Bowbridge Lock where the canal starts its climb up the Golden Valley towards the Sapperton Canal Tunnel.
I suggest we meet at 7-15pm ready for a 7-30pm start, please dress for the weather ( good I hope) and bring some bits of dead animal to incinerate afterwards.
