In This Edition:

AGM:
At the AGM earlier this month the following were elected as officers of the club:

Chairman: Maurice Febry Tackle Officer: To be appointed
Secretary: Joe Duxbury Meets Secretary: To be appointed
Treasurer: Jon Maisey Training Coordinator: Steve Tomalin
Librarian: Neil Culross Ordinary Members: Dave Brooks
Newsletter Editor: Dave Appleing Danny Copeland

It was Maurice’s 40th AGM in a row, and he kindly donated £100 to the club. Maurice has been awarded a huge vote of thanks.

Paul Taylor has offered a permanent home for the GSS library, in its entirety, at the GCRG depot (subject to ratification by the GCRG Committee). This is a very welcome invitation. When the time comes for the room to be tidied and the library contents installed, you lot will be asked to help.

Many thanks once more to Rose Taylor for a splendid spread of food.

Subscriptions:
Your subscriptions are now due! They were unchanged at the AGM, so they remain at £15 for full membership, £21 for family membership, and £10 for concessionary (i.e. students, unemployed) membership.

If you want to pay your BCA insurance premium (£15 for active members, and £5 for non-active members) in advance (they become due in January), and thereby speed up our submission to the BCA, then please do. Jon Maisey will be glad to receive your dosh.

T-Shirts:
Jon Maisey is putting together an order for club t-shirts, sweatshirts, and polo shirts. You can specify your own colours and designs. Please contact Jon as soon as possible to order one of these indispensable items.

There are still plenty of Anniversary mugs left. These can now be bought by member for £2 and by non-members for £3.

Newsletter:
The club newsletter is not just a vehicle for reporting the antics of the club’s members, but serves as a historical record of its activities. So, when you go on a caving trip, or do a bit of digging, write something about it and be recorded for posterity.

Website:
In the same vein, the GSS website, www.gloucester-speleo.org is available for your use. Dudge has put a lot of work into the site recently, and if no-one is going to use it, his efforts are wasted. A system for access to the GSS members-only parts of the site is being created, and you can then add your own pictures and messages (I guess you've already found the website outherwise you wouldn't be reading this - Dudge).

Descent:
Reduced-rate subscriptions for “Descent” magazine are still available through GSS. The annual subscription is now £19 (compared to the list price of £23.10). Contact Jo Clarke if you want to receive this informative magazine and learn all about underground developments in Britain and across the world.

Myke Collins:
Myke Collins was formally made an Honorary GSS member on Friday 19 October, and Maurice presented him with a GSS scroll and a GSS limited edition enamel badge.

Outdoor Clothing Offer:
A rep from “Keela” will be at the GCRG Warden's Training Evening at 8.00pm on Friday 9th November, with a range of their outdoor clothing.

Keela supply many of the mountain rescue teams and are leaders in this field. Several of us already use their kit and have been well impressed with it. All GCRG members are entitled to buy at trade prices, and there will also be various other deals to be had on the night. The range includes clothing for both sexes and children, so there is something for all.

The rep will be at the GCRG Depot until you manage to buy all of her goods, so please come, have a look, and spend!!

SRT Training:
Steve Tomalin will be holding an SRT training session on Monday 12 November. Please let him know if you want to take part.

Montenegro:
Would any of you be interested in a return trip to Montenegro? There is still great potential for new discoveries in this largely unexplored region. Contact Joe Duxbury if you fancy making some new finds.

Club Multi-Media Projector:
The committee have decided to buy a multi-media projector, which will largely replace the club’s slide projector. This is an expensive piece of equipment, so if anyone has any opinions on this purchase, or any information as to where one might be bought cheaply (is your company getting rid of an old model?), then please let a committee member know.

As the projection screen is also showing its age, we plan to replace this as well. If any of you would like to give it a good home…
