GSS Library:
Following on from the announcement in the last newsheet that Steve Tomalin no longer has room for the club library in his house, it has been proposed that we dispose of a lot of the unused journals. Most of them have never been looked at since they were received, up to 40 years ago. They could be returned to the club that originally sent them, or they could be passed to another library, such as the BCRA or William Pengelly. We would keep those journals that are relevant to the club’s areas of interest, i.e. the Forest of Dean, the Mendips and S Wales. This would leave us with the books and surveys.

The alternative is to store the library somewhere like the GCRG depot, which is not a good environment.

As this is such an important decision to make, it will be put to a vote by the membership at the AGM in October. In the meantime, let us have your views. Perhaps someone would be prepared to find space to store a few boxes of books and journals, rather see the bulk of the library disposed of.

GCRG Training Event:
The next GCRG Training Event will be on Sunday June the 3rd, and will include:

  • Comms checks in the area (and also from Otter Hole if sufficient numbers attend;
  • Surface scenarios using the quarry;
  • underground scenarios including pitch hauling and use of the Ogof Phone; and
  • familiarisation with new equipment as appropriate.
GCRG Ambulance

Please Note:

1. You will need to bring your SRT kit.

2. The depot is being used for parking by and outside group during the day. Their cars will be parked in the area to the right of the garage, as viewed from the gate. Please do not block them in, park considerately!

A combined team event with West Brecon and others is planned for September the 8th.

RFDCC Croessor-Rhosydd Slate Mine Trip:
13/15/16 July

You will see from the events diary that the RFDCC have organised a through-trip in the Croessor-Rhosydd slate mine.

Greg Jones has booked the LCCC hut at Tanygrisau for the weekend of 13/14/15 July. If you want to go, get back to him quickly in case there are any spaces left. There were still 9 spaces available at the end of last month. The cottage is about 10 minutes walk from the main climbing area of the Moelwyns, so quality rock-climbing is nearby for those who are interested
